OCS Cases

NJP is committed to protecting the rights of Alaska's foster youth and foster parents and to make sure that OCS complies with the law. In 2012, NJP negotiated the settlement of a class action lawsuit which resulted in a substantial across-the-board increase in Alaska's foster care rates. NJP also won a case barring the OCS from unilaterally seizing foster parent’s monthly benefits. See Heitz v. State, 215 P.3d 302 (Alaska 2009).
