Educational Rights

NJP is one of only a few law firms in the entire State of Alaska that represents parents and students in educational rights cases against Alaska's school districts. NJP has successfully handled many due process cases for disabled special education students. These cases involved fighting to establish students' eligibility for an IEP, obtaining proper evaluations, and obtaining significant compensatory education awards for our clients. NJP can also represent parents at IEP meetings. NJP is committed to ending the inhumane practice of restraints and seclusions in Alaska's schools. NJP has successfully handled lawsuits against multiple school districts for failing to comply with Alaska's laws on restrains and seclusions. NJP also defends students who are being wrongly disciplined by school officials.
